ABOUT US
History
Chammas Engenharia was founded in 1989, but its history begins in 1953 when the Chammas family immigrated from Lebanon to Brazil in search of new opportunities.
Salim Habib Chammas always encouraged his children to pursue success through university education and saw in his son, Riad Chammas, the potential to become an outstanding engineer. Thus, Riad enrolled in an engineering course at the Federal University of Bahia.
After graduation, Riad went on to the postgraduate program at PUC/RJ. In 1973, he had the opportunity to undertake an internship at Techniques Louis Menard (TLM), in France, where he led the Pressiometer Menard and Treatment of Compressible Soils by Dynamic Consolidation on TLM’s largest construction sites, in France, Austria, and Portugal.

Returning to Brazil in 1975, Riad settled in Belo Horizonte and took up a chair in the subject of Tailings Dams in the Specialization and Master’s Degree course in Dam Engineering at the Federal University of Ouro Preto.
In 1989 Chammas Engenharia was officially established, offering Geotechnical Consulting Services and Earth and Tailings Dams Projects. In the following years, the company won important contracts and expanded its solutions portfolio, offering geotechnical laboratory testing services, technological control of works, and field drilling.
A national benchmark in
geotechnics
Riad Chammas and Samir Chammas
At the beginning of the new millennium, Chammas Engenharia had already established itself as one of the main geotechnical services companies.
In 2011 was the natural transition of the head of the company to the family’s second generation with engineer Samir Chammas actively joining his father in 2011.
With a vision focused on operational efficiency, they implemented a strong information system, quality management, and processes. They had invested in acquiring modern field and laboratory geotechnical investigation equipment, instrumentation, and remote monitoring of dams and piles.
In 2015, Chammas Engenharia played a fundamental role in the recovery and stabilization of Samarco’s structures after the collapse of the Fundão dam, further consolidating itself as a reference in Technological Control of Geotechnical Works. This trajectory has made the company a benchmark for the Brazilian engineering market, and it is nationally recognized for its technical quality.
Currently, Chammas stands out at the forefront of Brazilian Geotechnical Engineering and continues to invest in new technologies and innovation projects. In this context of continuous evolution, to add to the vision of growth, the engineers and specialists Tadeu Castro and Giovani Costa joined the company’s board of directors.
Chammas is a company that delivers reliable, organized, and intelligent geotechnical information, and values technical competence, safety, efficiency, and operational excellence.
